Be A Church Volunteer-There are many opportunities for service through our church. Please email the church office if you want to be involved. We will help you find your passion.
Look for a new website soon! Donna White and Nancy Gentry are working with Tithe.ly to design a new website experience for members and friends of SGI UMC. You will soon have the opportunity to download a church app and to give to the church and its missions from anywhere! We are excited and will let you know when it is up and operational very soon!
United Women in Faith Coat Drive-Coats, sweaters, and sweatshirts are being collected for ages 1-12 to be shared with Franklin County chldren. They may be gently worn or new. Monetary donations are also being accepted. You may add your donation to the gift-wrapped box in the Fellowship Hall. The donations will be distributed at the Eastpoint Christmas Celebration on December 12th. For more information, contact Joyce at 850-899-0866.
GLOW: Everything is starting to come together for the “Christmas GLOW” on December 13th from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. There are a few needs if you’re interested in making a donation. Needed are bags of individually wrapped candy, gift wrap bags of all sizes, prep help the week of December 8th, and shopping helpers on December 13th. United Women in Faith 3rd Grade Reading Program: Monthly Reading with 3rd Graders at Franklin County Schools is headed up by Patti Stewart. Meet at the church at 12:15 p.m. every third Monday of the month. There will be no program in November or December due to holidays. If you are interested in participating. Contact Patti to volunteer at 319-329-5415.
Cook Kids Cook: Is one of the many outreach programs supported by the United Women in Faith. The program teaches young children easy and healthy meals they can prepare at home. It is offered the 3rd Saturday of every month from September through May. Times are from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at The Nest in Eastpoint. Boy Scout Troop 22: Is looking for additional adult leadership. There is a sign-up sheet on the “Welcome” table in the Fellowship Hall. They meet on the last Saturday of every month. The next meeting is October 25th at 10:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. If you have questions, contact Dan McClellan at 850-566-8975.
5th Sunday Special Offering-Sunday, 11/30/ 25 is a 5th Sunday when we collect a special offering to benefit ‘Residing Hope’ (formerly known as the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home). You can write “Residing Hope” on the memo line of your check and we will make sure your special gift benefits this worthy cause.
UWF Birthday Luncheon-The United Methodist Women in Faith invite all women and their friends to celebrate December birthdays on Monday, December 8th at 11:45 a.m. at Red Pirate Grill in Eastpoint. RSVP to Kay Leach.
UWF Christmas Luncheon: Wednesday, December 17th at noon at Joyce Estes’ home in Eastpoint (179 N. Bayshore Dr). Bring a covered dish and join them for good food, fun, and fellowship. RSVP to Joyce Estes.
Do You Love to Sing Christmas Carols? Come join Dan McClellan along with your friends and neighbors at Eastpoint Beer Company in Eastpoint on December 21st from 3:00-5:00 p.m. for some Christmas cheer and caroling!
Coffeehouse Concert-A special treat for you on December 3rd at 11:00 a.m. will be ‘Joe Crookson’ at the Holy Family Senior Center in Apalachicola. Joe is a multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter/poet/artist. He has played with all of the greats and his songs have been made into award-winning films. You are going to LOVE his show! Bring a brown bag lunch and a friend. Enjoy Island Espresso coffee and snacks. We would love to ‘pack the house’ for these talented artists traveling here to entertain us! A suggested $10 donation helps feed the food insecure of Franklin County. Put this event on your calendar today!
Grief Support Group-GriefShare meets every Monday at 10:00 a.m. All are welcome. It is open to the entire community. Griefshare is on summer haitus but will begin again on September 8th.
Aaron’s Meals with United Women in Faith: Or anyone that likes to bake! Our church has committed to supplying 35 dozen desserts for Aaron’s Meals on the 3rd Monday of each month. We have chosen cookies, brownies, or cookie bars. They can be baked in advance and stored in the church’s freezer. Place two items per snack bag. If you have questions, contact Teresa Manning Fritz at 813-833-9025.
Thrift Shop: Open Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Closed if raining or a holiday. Donatioins are welcome and receipts are available from the church office.
Prayer Team-The prayer team meets in the Worship Center on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. If you want a prayer or praise added to our list, please email the church office.
Hope Park Senior Adult Luncheon: Meets on the second Tuesday, of each month at 11:30 a.m. The meal is free and there is always an inspirational program. RSVP to Gloria at gloriahopepark@gmail.com if you plan to attend.
Men’s Prayer Breakfast-The Men’s Community Interfaith Prayer & Devotion Breakfast meets year-round on Wednesdays at 8:15 a.m. at the Beach Pit BBQ Restaurant, 401 W Pine Ave, SGI. All men are welcome to attend.
Island Girl Chair Yoga: Meets every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. You don’t need to bring any equipment, a chair will be provided. We are very blessed to have Cindy Donald and Betsy Nofziger as the Yoga instructors. Cash donations are accepted to support church missions.
Kids Klub at Hope Park-Meets every Thursday from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. for fun and games. Be sure to share this information with anyone who has school-aged children. Please contact the church office for ways to volunteer.
Caring and Sharing Ministry-Do you know someone who has an injury, surgery, or needs a meal or rides to an appointment, shopping, or any other need? Please contact the church so we can get the help needed. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the church se we can put you in touch with the coordinator.
Advent Bible Study 2025-Make your plans to attend the first four Mondays in December at 6:00 p.m. for an Advent Bible Study titled “An Unlikely Advent”. Rachel Billups guides readers through the themes of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace by sharing the stories of Elizabeth & Zachariah, Herod, the Magi, and the shepherds. Only five books are left! A sign-up sheet is available on the Welcome Table in the Fellowship Hall. The cost of a participant book is $16. See Nancy for your copy and come participate!
Volunteers Needed for the following Positions:
Money Counter Coordinator-On Sundays after worship. It takes about 10 minutes.
Official Bulletin Folder-Every Thursday (you choose the time). It takes about 30 minutes.
Residing Hope Coordinator-Once per quarter. Receive correspondence and giving information.
Hosts Needed: Volunteers are needed to host Fellowship Time on Sundays and other social events. A couple could host and bring food, set up, and clean up or it can continue with individuals signing up to bring food and two additional folks being responsible for setting up, putting out food, and cleaning up. Nancy will make the coffee each week. If you are interested contact Nancy Gentry at (850-927-2931) for additional information.
“SGI Sing We Now of Christmas”: Mark your calendars now for December 21st for the Christmas Cantata during morning worship. Rehearsals will be every Sunday at 11:30 p.m. (except for Thanksgiving weekend). Dress rehearsal will be Saturday, December 20th at 10:00 a.m. Plan on participating. Invite your friends and neighbors to participate and to attend. Listening recordings and sheet music will be provided. Let Ed Lyon know of your interest (850-556-4113).
